A Year Already?!?!

Look at our Big Boy!
Just before Carter's first birthday, we had some professional photos taken:

And What a Party is Was....
On Saturday, May 16th, we hosted a party for about 28 people total to celebrate Carter's first birthday. That is way too many gifts (that Carter doesn't really need) so we asked guests to bring donations to the Grauer Back-to-School Project instead. The weather was gorgeous, so we hosted everyone in our new and improved backyard. We had a great time and enjoyed the company of our Portland (and Seattle) family and friends. We were lucky enough to host Joanne and Jason Canfield and their 2-month old daughter, Catalina Jane. It was extra special because Carter and Jason share the same birthday, so we were able to celebrate Jason's birthday, too.

The theme was sock monkeys. With the help of Auntie Shirley and Monika, I made 7 sock monkeys, one favor for each child to take home. We had sock monkey and banana cupcakes and sock monkey decorations. I made a poster with 12 photos of Carter and his sock monkey---one for each year of his life. Carter, Dave and I all wore sock monkey t-shirts for the occasion. We went APE over the sock monkeys!

Carter had a blast playing with the kids, his ball, and his new Radio Flyer Scooter. He wasn't phased at all by the crowd, and in fact, hammed it up with everyone around him. We are so blessed to have such an amazingly sweet, mellow and social little guy. We love him more day after day.
