Back at Work:
Now that I am back at work, many people are asking how we're doing. My answer: "We're so great!" Honestly. Carter is a very healthy and happy little boy, and Dave and I couldn't ask for anything more than that. The gauge for contentment has completely shifted, and it really is all about him. As hard as it's been to go back to work, we find ourselves eternally grateful that we work in education where I have a four-day, 28-hour work week, and Dave has holidays, breaks and summers off. In reality, what more could we ask for?
Daycare Saving Grace:
Three weeks before I was to return to work, we recieved a phone call from our daycare provider informing us that she was moving to California to take care of her ailing father. Of course we understood, but we were frantic to find someone to watch Carter during the day. Luckily, my friend Susan came to our rescue. She volunteered to talk to her daughter's caregiver to see if she would be willing to watch another baby. The stars aligned, and we are so happy to have Veronica watching Carter in her home while we work. Veronica is a baby whisperer with 18 years' experience. We don't know how she does it, but everyday the babies (Carter, Samantha and Peace) are well-fed, clean and HAPPY! You can't believe how much these babies smile and giggle at her house. Yay for Veronica!
Finding our groove:
After a rough start, I am finding myself really into this motherhood thing. I know Dave totally digs being a dad, too. Since we gave up on breastfeeding, Carter is on more of a schedule, and we are able to read his needs really well. Don't get me wrong...he continues to surprise us, and we are learning something about him everyday, but overall we're really getting to know our little guy. Dave and I are a great team and we equally participate in parenting Carter. We equalize to 50/50 as each of us takes over when the other needs a break, and we work to balance our strengths and weaknesses. Neither of us is perfect, but God created a perfect partnership in our marriage.
Diggin' our little mister:
Already, Carter has a personality that is all his own. And you know what? We like him! He's sweet, easy to soothe, and the way he smiles just melts our hearts. He's slow to wake up (like his daddy) and when he needs to eat, he needs to eat NOW (like his mommy). He enjoys soft music but hates loud noises, loves getting massages but doesn't like to be cradled, and he still hasn't figured out what to think of the bathtub. When he's excited, he waves his hands, kicks his feet and coos. He watches himself in the mirror , reaches for his toys and shakes his little plastic keys until they fly out of his hands. We are just fascinated by him and watch him for hours. We pretty much think he's the bees knees!

So that's our update. Three months into this gig, and we're doing allright. We are thankful for Carter's health and disposition and we *love* being his parents!
